A New Lemmings Game Sneaked Onto Mobile Devices!

Uploaded by PlayStation Europe on 2018-12-19.

If you grew up in the age of old computer games you no doubt played Lemmings! The challenging puzzle game has players trying to guide there group of creatures, called Lemmings, from a starting point to an exit point. Victory in a level could only be achieved by saving a designated number of Lemmings. Along the way numerous obstacles need to be overcome that can involve a great deal of strategic planning. And now a new entry into the franchise has been released on iPhone and Android phones out of nowhere!

The new game, also titled Lemmings, is a free to play experience that brings the classic gameplay to mobile devices. In a recent PlayStation Blog post the developer of this new take on Lemmings, Sad Puppy, had this to say.

We took the Lemmings experience that people know and love and re-engineered it to make the most of smartphones and tablets.

We’ve designed levels that are played in portrait orientation, as this is the most comfortable position to hold a device with one hand.

We worked tirelessly on touch controls, removing secondary elements like camera control and making it as simple for players to assess the level, plan a strategy and execute it. It’s the Lemmings game you know and love, redesigned for the best experience on your device.

Under your direction, they’ll dig, climb, build, block and fall through levels, with an ease of control that is both fun and challenging.

While I am not entirely excited about the free to play aspect of Lemmings, I am glad to see the series get a new release after 12 years. I am also bummed out the game won’t be releasing on the Vita as the touch controls would have been a perfect fit for Sony’s abandoned handheld.
