The old school card game Magic: The Gathering, has become more accessible than ever due to its new online platform Magic: The Gathering, Arena (MTGA).
For those unfamiliar with the game, you play as a powerful being called a Planeswalker summoning creatures and casting spells against enemy Planeswalkers from an arsenal you have prepared ahead of time. This is all represented through the decks you use. Magic is a relatively expensive card game hobby, but now you can play Magic the Gathering for free on MTGA. Those familiar with the game are sure to have a few qualms about the mechanics; for example, it can be harder to hide whether you have a trick up your sleeve due to the auto pass features. Although this can be worked around or avoided, the effort to create sly traps is more extensive than when playing with physical cards. However, you can participate in drafting and card collecting for free, so that has to count for something.
If you hate freemium games, this may not be up your alley, but the random nature of the collection process keeps it about as fair as in real life (I.e. if you spend more on your collection, you’re bound to have some advantage).
Players new to MTGA can get 10 decks for free just for playing a little each day for a week. For die hard Magic fans like myself, this was a great opportunity since the experience is just as important as collecting the physical cards.
Use the below promo codes to get a few booster packs and cards for free. They are only good for one use per account.
Regardless of your fancy, if you want an accessible trading card game but didn’t have the money before, or if you simply want to add to your experience with a hobby you’ve been enjoying for years, MTGA is not something you’ll want to miss!
