Check Out The Trailer For The Upcoming 400-Player Battle Royale Game

It seems like the hype for battle royale games isn’t dying out any time soon. Even though PUBG is experiencing a decline in players for the first time ever, the battle royale genre is still growing as a whole and many developers are in stiff competition with one another to bring the best and most ambitious game out to the public.

Among the many upcoming battle royale games, Mavericks: Proving Grounds, may just be the most ambitious one yet. The game is being developed by a UK based studio, Automaton Games. Mavericks: Proving Grounds aims to give players the biggest and grandest battle royale game ever by increasing the traditional number of players from 100 to a whopping 400 players.

Furthermore, Automaton is also looking at the game’s environment and wants to improve the visual aspects of battle royale games. For Proving Grounds, the developer will be using SpatialOS tech that would create a “living, breathing world” that would be somewhat similar to the environment in huge single-player games such as Horizon Zero Dawn or The Witcher 3. In an interview with PC Gamer, James Thompson from Automaton Games shared their vision and goal for Mavericks: Proving Grounds.

“We want to focus on using more up-to-date tech to do something really ambitious, which is to create something that’s both really realistic and intuitive to play through, but is also massive in scale. (Similar to other battle royale games), but also very very different in the level of simulation and strategy that we’ve put in the world.”

Furthermore, Thompson said that several dynamic elements such as animals and forest fires will create a new level of simulation, and promises players that they are creating a “very thoughtful” and diverse level design. Mavericks: Proving Grounds is set to be released sometime this year, with an open beta scheduled this summer.
