id Software Is Unsure Whether RAGE 2 Will Ever Work On The Switch

When DOOM Eternal was announced for the Nintendo Switch at this year’s QuakeCon, several fans of id Software’s Rage series were left wondering whether a game from the franchise will also be released on the Switch. Now, the studio’s director, Tim Willits, revealed that Rage 2 was also considered for the platform.

Speaking to DualShockers at this year’s GamesCom, Willits, together with Bethesda’s Pete Hines revealed that bringing Rage 2 to the Switch will be a challenging task as the game is being developed in a different game engine.

“We’ve talked about it, but it’s a completely different engine and tech," Hines said to DualShockers. "The nice thing about Doom, Wolf, and Doom Eternal is it all uses id Tech, Rage 2 uses Avalanche’s engine, so it’s a different beast concerning a seamless open world that you can play like that. We’ve talked about it some. Still uncertain whether that could ever work on the Switch.”

However, Bethesda also explained that the company is doing its best to bring more games to the Switch, but each port requires time and investment to ensure a quality port that will seamlessly work in the platform. The developers did not close the door for a Rage game on the Switch entirely. It’s just that they are still uncertain whether a port is possible at this point.

Rage 2 is scheduled to release on June 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
