As sad as it is to say, Need for Speed Heat has finally received its last content update as the team at Criterion is shifting focus into future games in the series. What an update this is though as a number of things have either been fixed or added including crossplay! After downloading and installing the update a new EA Friends tab will be available for you to search out your friends playing on other platforms. The update is now available across all platforms and you can see the full patch notes here.

I am sad to see Need for Speed Heat being discontinued so soon after launch. The game finally felt like a step back towards what made the franchise good back in the day and I applaud the effort Ghost Games put into it. But with the shuttering of Ghost games and the series being turned over to Criterion, it makes sense to me that they would want to make their own game with their vision. One cool thing for PC players that may not yet have hopped into Need For Speed Heat is that EA will now be offering the game on Steam along with the 2016 reboot, Need for Speed, and Need for Speed Rivals. The game will also be added to the EA/Origin Access Vault starting on the 16 of this month.

For those of you out there wondering what will be next for the franchise, Matt Webster, General Manager of Criterion, has let it be known that they are planning to share details of what’s to come at the upcoming EA Play Live digital showcase coming on June 18. It will be interesting to see where Criterion decides to take the franchise moving forward and I for one will be watching for the details as they come in. What do you all think about Need for Speed Heat coming to an end?
