Concurrent Discontinuation of NES Classic and Mini Famicom May Indicate It's Only Temporary

Although Nintendo has officially discontinued production of the NES Classic Edition in North America, a glimmer of hope for its comeback remains.

Right after the shocking news broke out about the widely popular mini console's production coming to an abrupt end, Nintendo issued a statement saying that the NES Classic's Japanese counterpart, the mini Family Computer, would cease production in Japan as well. However, unlike the statement by Nintendo of North America, the Japanese one was accompanied with a note on the official mini Famicom website that, as noted by Famitsu, reads:

Production of this product is ending temporarily. When manufacturing resumes, we will provide information at another time on this homepage.

Google Translate's version of Nintendo's official mini Famicom page roughly states the same.

Could the same apply to the NES Classic? Perhaps. After all, Nintendo did say that the April shipments of NES Classic would be the last for this year. Emphasis on the, "this year". Additionally, the latest speculation is that Nintendo switched all production efforts to meet the exceedingly high demand for the Nintendo Switch, something that is not at all hard to believe just from seeing the impressive sales numbers and the continuous stock unavailability of the new console.  Unless Nintendo really has something against making tons of money, it's hard to believe that Nintendo would let this wave of success go.
