Niantic Officially Brings Down The Ban Hammer On Cheaters

For weeks now some Pokémon GO users have been trying to find ways to circumvent leaving their house to play Pokémon GO. While some have tried very creative ways to do this, like fastening their phone to a drone, many others have been taking advantage of bot software to cheat the system via GPS spoofing, which essentially tricks the game into thinking you’re going places when you’re not. This allows bot users to level insanely fast and take over gyms by using overpowered Pokémon, which kind of ruins the experience for legitimate players.

Luckily, Niantic has decided to put an end to this and has started issuing permanent bans to anyone suspected of cheating. Here’s their official statement:

After reviewing many reports of in-game cheating, we have started taking action against players taking unfair advantage of and abusing Pokémon GO. Moving forward, we will continue to terminate accounts that show clear signs of cheating.
Our main priority with Pokémon GO is to provide a fair, fun, and legitimate game experience for all players. If our system has determined that you cheated, then you will receive an email stating that your account has been terminated.

Niantic does urge users who believe their account has been terminated incorrectly to report it to the Pokémon GO Help Center.
