Sony Finally Buys Insomniac Games

In a move that is a surprise but not all that surprising Sony has finally bought Insomniac Games! The developer has had long ties with the PlayStation brand going back nearly 25 years. Back in the early days of the studios history they would often work, with now long time Sony owned studio, Naughty Dog. The two studios would share knowledge and tech to help better build each other up. Interestingly one studio was bought up and the other wasn’t. It is cool to finally see this rectified!

Insomniac Games is one of the most highly-acclaimed development studios in the industry and their legacy of best-in class storytelling and gameplay is unparalleled. We have enjoyed a strong collaborative partnership with the studio for many years, and are thrilled to officially welcome them to the Worldwide Studios family. The addition of Insomniac Games to SIE WWS reiterates our commitment to developing world class gaming experiences that can only be found on the PlayStation platform.
— Shawn Layden, Chairman of Sony Worldwide Studios

Virtually every Insomniac game released from the original Spyro to last years Spider-Man has been a PlayStation exclusive. The only notable exceptions to this are Sunset Overdrive for Xbox One, FUSE which was a PS3/360 title and finally some VR titles on PC. While I am curious to see what this means for the Sunset Overdrive franchise, I think the move was proably the right one for the studio as a whole.
