Square Enix Issues An Apology For Not Anticipating The High Demand For OCTOPATH TRAVELER

If the toy industry has the Build-A-Bear Pay Your Age Sale, which failed to predict the outpour of people wanting to take a stuffed animal for their kids, then the gaming industry has Square Enix, who also was unable to anticipate the demand for the physical version of their latest game, Octopath Traveler.

A day after the release of Square Enix's new game, which takes us back to the era of classic JRPGs, the developer's social media team issued an apology on Twitter for not making enough physical copies of the game to meet with the high demand from players.

"We are sorry that some of the shops are out of stock..." the apology read via IGN. "You can also consider the DL version..."

Octopath Traveler is Square Enix's new IP that features a nostalgic feel of older JRPGs. The developer did not anticipate the high-demand for the physical version of the game, which resulted in stores running out of stock in some parts of the US, Japan, and the rest of the world.

Of course, given that Octopath Traveler is a new game from a new franchise, it is somewhat understandable that both Nintendo and Square Enix underestimated the demand for the game. After all, the game belongs to the JRPG genre, which has reached its peak back in the 90's. Given the high-demand of the game, maybe Octopath Traveler will lead the renaissance of the high-fantasy turn-based RPG?

Were you able to purchase the physical version of Octopath Traveler? How is your experience so far?
