STAR WARS EPISODE 1: RACER Gets A Fan Made Unreal Engine 4 Remake!

Now this is pod racing! Holy crap it has been almost 20 years since the release of The Phantom Menace and with it one of the best games racing games to grace the Nintendo 64 library Star Wars Episode 1: Racer. Episode 1 Racer was so much fun to play with its intense speeds, number of unlockable racers and pod upgrades. Unfortunately, the game was rather short with only 3 main competitions comprising of 7 races and 4 bonus tracks.

Hello everyone, here's my last personal project on which I work since about 10 months, during my free time and after my work . At first it was only an exercise to learn the basics of Unreal Engine, but it went a bit too far ....

Star Wars Episode 1: Racer would see release on the Nintendo 64, PC and Dreamcast in its lifetime. A top-down version was also released on Gameboy Color but its best not to speak of it. Many might also remember the huge arcade cabinet version of the game with its replica seating of Anakin’s pods from The Phantom Menace. Now, a new fan made version of the game has been released utilizing Unreal Engine 4. This demo version comes courtesy of RobJin who decided to use the game as a way to learn the Unreal 4 Engine. The demo as it is right now only has Anakin as a playable racer and Mos Espa is the only available track. Even still, this demo is very impressive and super nostalgic. You can try it out for yourself here! You can also play the original in full 4K by grabbing the GOG.com release if this demo drives you straight to the nostalgia pool.
