STAR WARS: IMPERIAL ASSAULT Boardgame Championships Sweeps Through US and Canada These Holidays

Fantasy Flight Games is arguably the most popular and best boardgame developers there are. Not only do they create stellar tabletop games, but they always aim for those top brand names, such as Lucas Films in this instance. Furthermore, they create Regional Championships for geeks like myself out there.

Case in point: The Star Wars: Imperial Assault Regional Championships that is currently hyperspacing its way through the United States and Canada. What's great about these championships is that you aren't just stuck with the vanilla board. You can use expansions too, like  Driven by Hatred and the other new skirmish upgrades from the Heart of the Empire expansion.

This season's Regional Championship prizes boast a decidedly Scum and Villainy aesthetic, acknowledging the roles that the galaxy's various bounty hunters, crime lords, and Hutts play in the greater Star Wars saga. You'll find these characters and their actions represented by alternate art deployment cards and a decorative point dial. And it's hardly a stretch of the imagination to think of these characters fighting for the bounty represented by the speckled dice available to the Top 8 players at each tournament.

Each division in the Regional Championships will receive prizes, namely the Top 64, Top 16, Top 8, and Top 4, leaving the ultimate Champion will receive the Regional Championship trophy and National Championship prize. The Regional Championship trophy was inspired by the medals awarded to Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, and it is accompanied by a free first-round bye at their region's National Championship.

So if you have nothing better to do these holidays, or if you are not lucky enough to buy Star Wars Battlefront II, you can always attend a Regional Championship near you. Visit the Regional Championships website to see where in the US and Canada you can attend. The Championship runs until March 25, 2018.

If you do attend, please share some pics with us, either as a link in the comments below, on our Facebook page or by Tweeting to us. We really look forward to seeing your attendance at the events and finding out what the atmosphere is like.
