The Mandalorian Season 2 Takes Off Quickly

The Mandalorian Season 2 premiered just yesterday and boy did it deliver. It continues that old spaghetti-western feel with this episode being set literally in a desert town being watched over by a heroic Sheriff Cobb Vanth played by actor Timothy Olyphant. This is just another pit-stop for the Mando and the child as they try to locate some Jedi and save this kid correctly. This may actually be my favorite episode of the series so far and I’ll get into that down below. For folks who have yet to experience the premier for themselves, you’ve been warned because there are some spoilers ahead!

I love the fact that within the first episode we get to see more of the iconic planet Tatooine. I’ve missed seeing it within the franchise as of late. I know we’ve seen glimpses of it here and there but to see it in all of its glory, filled with easter eggs, was just amazing. I mean Cobb Vanth drives a speeder that’s a Frankensteined pod-racer engine! We actually have Sand People being put into the spotlight for once and learn that the Mando can actually speak and sign in their language. This dude is the real deal!

We all know the absolute best part of the episode though, and it actually had nothing to do with The Child! It’s the inclusion of that sweet sweet Boba Fett Mandalorian armor and the man himself, actor Temuera Morrison. You might remember him from the franchise as he made his debut in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, where he played Boba Fett’s Father, Jango, as well as the entire Clone Trooper army. He’s always been one of my favorite actors in the original trilogy and I’m glad to see his inclusion in the post-empire era.

Because the armor is used in the same episode that he’s revealed, it’s heavily implied that he could be Boba but I don’t really know if this is the case. Following the events of the seventh season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, he possibly could be the beloved clone character, Captain Rex. I’m sure we’ll get some closure to these theories within the season but who knows how soon though? Even if he is indeed Rex, I’d still love to know what’s up with Boba too. What are your theories?
