16-Bit Platformer SUPER CATBOY Coming Soon
Two-person developer Pixelpogo and publisher Assemble Entertainment have announced the news that retro platformer Super Catboy will hit the PC later this month. A demo is already available for players to cut their teeth on ahead of the official release.
Super Catboy is a platformer that clearly takes inspiration from some of the platformers of the nineties. Players of old titles like Earthworm Jim will probably feel very at home with the toony 2D jumping, shooting, and fighting.
Players take the role of the titular feline hero Catboy, who sets out with his sidekick Weapongirl. The two do battle with an army of dog-people and hunt down Catboy's creator, the evil Dr. Ungefug. To do so involves navigating a diverse set of levels, rendered in the 16-bit graphics of yesteryear. There are streets, forests, mines complete with minecart segments, and even moving trains to fight through. Players will get the chance to try out a wide range of different weapons for size. They might need them too, because the game boasts a number of boss fights to struggle through.
Super Catboy is set to release on PC via Steam and GOG on July 24th. A free demo version is available now via the Steam page.
