3 Upcoming Metroidvania Titles You Don't Want To Miss

One genre that never seems to get old is the side-scrolling action platformer style that we’ve all come to know simply as Metroidvania. While most of the time these games take a dark theme, that isn’t always the case, but what they do all have in common is a challenging environment split into sections of a map that players have to explore to uncover. While there is quite an abundance of these titles, here are three upcoming indie Metroidvania titles you don’t want to miss!

Moonscars

This upcoming 2D Souls-like game from Black Mermaid and Humble Games showed off some hardcore gameplay from its announcement earlier this year. Players will take on the role of the fierce clayborne warrior Grey Irma. While every death a lesson is learned to help players push their combat skills to the limit and master new abilities to progress.

Moonscars is set to release on September 17th on PC via the Humble Store and Steam, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.

Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider

This title from The Arcade Crew and JoyMasher is channeling the golden age of classic 16-bit action games in a refined, full-throttle quest for revenge. It is being designed to host the best classic action game elements in the laser-precise sights of its starring ninja, keeping combat snappy, responsive, and challenging. Powerful modifier chips are guarded and hidden throughout the adventure, allowing the cyborg super soldier to customize its fighting style while gaining killer advantages and abilities.

Prepare to become the unlikely hero in Fall 2022 when Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider releases on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Amazon Luna.

Biomorph

Most recently announced is a dark, action-packed 2D Souls-like Metroidvania from Lucid Dreams Studio. Players must rebuild the city of Blightmoor and befriend the townspeople, learning more about both their and the town’s origins. Solve puzzles and platforming challenges, fight deadly monsters and take their shapes to use their powers, and level-up as you fight through the vast areas around the city, collecting new abilities, mementos and blueprints. The journey will reveal surprising and alarming truths about our hero’s own origins.

Biomorph is set to release on PC via Steam and an unspecified list of consoles in 2023.
