A New TALES FROM THE BORDERLANDS Game Is Coming This Year

In an announcement at GDC today, Gearbox and 2K officially revealed that a new Tales From The Borderlands game has been developed by Gearbox and is slated to arrive later this year. The announcement comes alongside an image that shows a large, Vault symbol from the franchise set in front of a glowing moon, with three, silhouetted figures standing below the arch.

The news was also shared on the various companies’ social media channels along with the aforementioned image. 2K revealed in a follow-up tweet that this new game will feature “new characters and new stories,” suggesting that this title won’t focus on the same cast of characters as the original. The official Borderlands Twitter account also confirmed that a larger reveal for the game will be coming later on this summer.

Despite Telltale Game’s recent, phoenix-like revival, the new version of the developer won’t be working on this iteration of Tales From The Borderlands. While few official details were offered about the game’s development, the announcement does confirm that the new entry is being developed in-house at Gearbox.

Tales From The Borderlands was an episodic, narrative adventure developed by the original Telltale Games and initially released in 2014. It follows the adventures of Rhys, Fiona, Vaughn, and Sasha as they get caught up in a trade deal that quickly spirals out of control. Characters from previous games in the series make appearances, including playable heroes Zero and Athena, and it even offers an unexpected conclusion to the story of Handsome Jack, the main antagonist of Borderlands 2. The game was widely praised for its stellar writing, endearing characters, and powerful story beats that had long-lasting effects on the entire franchise (RIP Scooter).

The new Tales From The Borderlands will launch sometime in 2022, though no platforms have been revealed at the time of this writing. The original Tales From The Borderlands is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
