Alienware Wireless Gaming Mouse AW620M Review: Sleek And Casual

AW620M Provided For Review by Alienware

Alienware has always been a go-to company when it comes to gaming gear and their product the Alienware Wireless Gaming Mouse AW620M, is no slouch. The AW620M is a right-hand-focused mouse and is designed with comfort and wireless precision for gaining in mind, especially during long marathon gaming sessions. The mouse comes in two colors, white or black, and as always with gaming gear has neon lighting in it that can be specified to your preference.

What’s In The Box

The AW620M comes in a standard mouse box, showcasing the specific color and the pre-set neon lighting option. Inside the box, you have the mouse, the instruction book, the charging wire that doubles as an optional wired connection, and the USB-C Wireless Dongle and the dongle extender to connect the USB-C to the charging cable.

Aesthetics and Build Quality

You can always trust Alienware when it comes to gamer aesthetics, and the AW620M doesn’t disappoint. Sleek, smooth, and almost suspiciously comfortable, the AW620M is a delight to use and look at. The AW620M is very well-designed and easy to use, making it perfect for gamers who are casual but play often. There is a dedicated thumb channel on the left with a nice space to rest your thumb as well as ‘tactile grip zones’ which as stated make the mouse easier to grip. In addition, as with all gaming gear these days the AW620M comes with three different areas that light up in various neon colors. Although if you wish to change or edit the color settings from brightness to actual color, you will need to download the Alienware Command Center. It is also through the command center that you will be able to alter the mouse’s macros, dpi, key bindings, and other settings.

Specs and Features

Alright, time for the nitty gritty specs for all you tech-heads out there. Many may be scared of buying a wireless gaming mouse fearing drops in latency or other connection issues. In this case with the AW620M, Alienware has included independent patent-pending magnetic force L/R keyplates with long-lasting optical switches for no lag in click detection. Aside from that the mouse has up to 26,000 DPI, 650 IPS, and 50G max acceleration, as well as a 1000HZ Polling Rate (Wired/2.4GHZ). The AW620M also claims a robust battery life of up to 140 hours via the 2.4GHz wireless dongle connection as well as incredibly quick recharging capabilities with five minutes of charging equating to ten hours of play in some cases. There are 7 programmable buttons and a 70 million-click lifespan.

What It Could Have Done Better

The AW620M is a very nice mouse that has been a pleasure to use but there are some issues that may drive others away. For one, the AW620M is definitely a casual gaming mouse and not something I recommend for the uber-serious gamers who want to micro-manage and get every possible macro and millisecond improvement out of their gear. Although that may be apparent by the fact the side has the regular two buttons rather than six or eight and so on seen on some gaming mice. In the theme of being a casual gaming mouse the AW620M is extremally comfortable to use for long hours of casual even not-so-casual gaming. The click on the AW620M is on the stiffer and louder side in the case that matters to those who like softer and quiet mice. Lastly, the Alienware Comand Center can be annoying to use at times and is a pain to find the right place to download it if your computer didn’t come with it.

Verdict

When it comes down to it, the AW620M is perfect for regular gamers who enjoy long sessions of games but enjoy especially casual play with occasional semi-serious gaming experiences. The AW620M is definitely not for the super serious and professional gamers who want to maximize their experience and skill levels. But if you’re a regular gamer looking for a sleek, easy-to-use, comfortable, wireless gaming mouse, the AW620M is at the top of the list with only a few minor detractions.

The Alienware Wireless Gaming Mouse AW620M is available now for $99.99 on the Alienware website.
