All The New Info From The DESTINY 2: THE WITCH QUEEN ViDoc
Bungie released the video documentary, or ViDoc, for their upcoming expansion Destiny 2: The Witch Queen yesterday, and it’s stuffed with new information about the new content players can expect when the expansion launches on February 22nd, 2022.
The ViDoc features multiple members of the Destiny 2 development team discussing the new features coming to the long-running shooter and breaking down what challenges and rewards will be available when The Witch Queen is available later this month.
The documentary opens with a recap of the story of Destiny 2 up to this point and how the notable villain Savathûn has been operating from the shadows. After a brief truce during the current season (Season of the Lost), Savathûn has decided that she doesn’t have any more need for the Guardians and is ready to clear the player characters off the board once and for all.
The Witch Queen will add a new, explorable region to the game that exists in another dimension and reflects Savathûn’s own twisted mind. The developers describe it as a giant puzzle box filled with mysteries and secrets that will lead players to the truth behind Savathûn’s lies. Even the central story campaign for The Witch Queen will feature puzzle elements usually only found in Destiny 2’s endgame content.
The ViDoc also reveals the first glimpse at the new seasonal content coming to Destiny 2 alongside The Witch Queen. The Season of the Risen will be the first Destiny 2 season to be fully integrated into the narrative of a major expansion and will see players teaming up with Caiatl and her Cabal to fend off Savathûn’s invading forces across the solar system.
Several new combat features were shown off in greater detail, including the weapon crafting system that will allow players to build out their dream gun roll. The glaive is a new weapon archetype that functions as both a melee weapon and a ranged weapon and has a built-in shield for added utility. There are roughly 50 new weapons joining the game between The Witch Queen and Season of the Risen.
Each of Destiny 2’s Void subclasses will be getting a revamp with the new expansion that builds off the customization options introduced with the Stasis subclasses. Players will have the option to mix and match different abilities to create their own personal build, and new abilities like a support barrier for Titans and a health-draining Void orb for Warlocks will shake up the meta-game in new and interesting ways.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is shaping up to be the most ambitious expansion in the game’s history, and it’s one that Bungie has been promoting rigorously in the lead-up to launch. There’s not much longer to wait for the release, as Destiny 2: The Witch Queen will launch on February 22, 2022, for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, and PC via Steam.
