Is BAKAHAZA The RESIDENT EVIL Game We've Been Waiting For?
Lets preface this article by saying that like many Resident Evil fans out there, after watching the trailers and playing through The Beginning Hour demo several times, I'm very reticent to think about Resident Evil VII: Biohazard as a Resident Evil title at all. It feels more like a spinoff, like The Lone Gunmen was to The X-Files. I am, however, intrigued by the game purely as a survival horror experience, with that said, lets talk about Bakahaza, which is a spinoff that feels more attuned to its Resident Evil roots.
As you will appreciate in the trailer below, Bakahaza is a top-down, whacky, little mobile game by Capcom that combines the odd charm of Fujio Akatsuka's Tensai Bakabon and the horror survival spirit of classic Resident Evil, and yes, there are zombies.
The trailer goes by really fast but there are nice, little shout-outs to Resident Evil's 20 years of history scattered all over the place, like for example:
The game takes place in a location eerily similar to the Spencer Mansion
Zombies!
vicious, infected, zombified animals
Classic items and familiar inventory screens
Puzzles and hidden areas
and, of course, typewriters!
Now, all we're missing is a Tyrant and some evidence that Umbrella is behind this zombie outbreak as well!

As evidenced, the game looks like a fun, old-school, top-down, adventure game with simple yet effective gameplay, not to mention it has plenty of the things we love about Resident Evil to go around. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of mobile gaming and I'd much rather play this game on the 3DS or the Vita, I can honestly say I'm kind of looking forward to this one.
Bakahaza is scheduled to be released in Japan for free on iOS and Android devices in Fall of 2016.
