BALDUR'S GATE 3 City Revealed In-Game For The First Time In 20 Years
After an already big announcement at the Summer Game Fest, developer and publisher Larian Studios decided to keep the news rolling. They reveal the work that has been put into Baldur’s Gate III! Larian Studios provided players with their first look at the iconic Forgotten Realms city in Baldur’s Gate at the PC Gaming Show.
Opening with an image of the waters of the Chionthar River, actual in-game footage reveals the fully next-gen version of this iconic fantasy setting while the developing team discusses the effort that went into the daunting task that is recreating Baldur’s Gate for a modern RPG. The city itself is a maze of streets, with alleys, temples, and public housing crawling with life. The team spent a lot of time ensuring that everything felt natural, with stories woven into every local that you encounter.
The city is also a bigger iteration of the setting that has come before it. There are streets going from the roads of the Outer City, to the estates in the Upper City, all the way down to the dark alleys of the Lower City. All filled to the brim with lively characters, all possessing their own untold secrets, well-kept secrets, and personal reactions. One thing that has changed is that Larian originally prototyped Baldur’s Gate as a series of smaller contained regions connected by teleports, but midway into developing the city decided on some major changes resulting in this full life-like experience. Come launch, players will step foot into Baldur’s Gate which will contain three seamless open-world districts. Whether you’re exploring underground crypts, wandering the endless tunnels of a citadel, or descending into a hidden cellar, there will be no visible loading screens to interrupt your experience.
Players can experience the city for themselves when Baldur’s Gate III releases on August 31st for PC via Steam and PlayStation 5.
