BOOK OF TRAVELS Has An Official Release Date For Early Access!
Immersion is something that many game studios strive for. It’s what drags players from their boring realities into an unbelievable wonderland, a war-torn hellscape, or into the guise of the high and mighty. Might and Delight have immersion on the brain and hand-crafted worlds in their veins for their new online RPG title Book of Travels (announcement trailer released 12/6/21). Classed as a Tiny Multiplayer Online RPG (TMORPG), Book of Travels promises a deep role-playing experience where combat is only one of many solutions to your problems.
Launched initially as a Kickstarter, the Swedish studio attracted over 7000 backers and over $300,000 to bring their “living painting” world to life. That was 4 years ago and now as I pour over the release trailer, I am reminded of another title that itched the same intellectual scratch (although for very different reasons); Torment: Tides of Numenera.
Much like the aforementioned title, I get the distinct impression that the developers want us to explore this atmospheric title, decipher our own meanings from it, and dive deep into the experience; taking what we will from it. Book of Travels boasts a world that is both beautiful and dark with experiences that are calm and passionate in equal measure. Judging by Might and Delight’s previous entries into the genre (Shelter, Meadow, and Pid) they are poised to take another step forward in atmospheric and emotional role-playing in an online setting.
Book of Travels releases into Early Access on Steam, August 9th, 2021.
