BUGSNAX is One Part Cute and a Whole Lot of WTF

In a gaming world of cheap knockoffs, annual copy and paste, and a ton of “been there, done that” type of titles, I’ve always give props for those developers who try something different. In this case, Bugsnax, which is free on PS5 for PS Plus users, is definitely something different. How different? Well, see that guy Filbo in the screenshot above? I caught and fed him a carrot type bug and a strawberry type bug, therefore, his limbs turned into carrots and strawberries. WTF is this game?!
Yep, just shooting ketchup bottle shaped plants at a bug that resembles a cheeseburger. Keep moving folks. Nothing to see here.
Though different, charming, cute and definitely unique, I couldn’t stop scratching my head as the game got more and more strange. With a mix of Pokemon/Snap type camera gameplay and trapping half snack/animal type creatures, the second quest involves shooting ketchup bottle shaped plants at cheeseburger-esque bugs. WTF? Yep. Get used to it.
Bugsnax is receiving positive reviews and vibes all over the Internets and while I can respect it being different, I couldn’t help laughing and saying “WTF?!” over and over again. Anyone else tried this game? Be sure to drop your opinion below.
