Check Out This Deep Dive Into DOOM On The SNES!

Modern Vintage Gamer has treated us to another interesting look into the history of gaming. Back in 1993 DOOM released for MS-DOS and changed the landscape of first-person shooters forever. Over the next 17 years, DOOM has been ported to practically everything under the sun including a refrigerator! One of the ports that has always been fascinating to me was the SNES version. Utilizing the base maps from the Atari Jaguar release and a Super FX Chip DOOM on SNES is a fascinating port. Last week, SNES DOOM coder, Randy Linden, released the source code to this version.

In the video, Modern Vintage Gamer gives us a detailed look and explanation into the code to see if anything could have been done back in the day to give it better performance and to see why it has the quirks it does. The talk is fairly technical but the explanations given make it pretty understandable. If you have a fascination with old games definitely give a look!
