Developers Behind FROSTPUNK Announce Game Engine Change And Book Series

There are some exciting announcements coming from 11 Bit Studios! This is the team behind their most recent and highly successful city-building survival sim, Frostpunk. After repeat indie title hits, all future game projects will be moving away from their in-house Liquid Engine and instead utilize Unreal Engine technology. Their trailer showcases what they intend to do with this new engine powerhouse, and it looks awesome!

The studio has had a number of successful games such as Children of Morta and This War of Mine. They’re currently working on three more unannounced game projects that will utilize Unreal Engine. 11 Bit Studios have even released a teaser trailer of a future announcement for a game that will officially be revealed on August 12th, using their new development approach.

In addition to the game engine update, the studio is riding high on the success Frostpunk and expanding the game’s universe. They’re now taking the franchise further with an upcoming anthology book series. They’ll be working with the Polish writer, Jacek Dukaj, the author behind bestsellers such as “Ice” and “Other Songs”. Dukaj plans to oversee the novellas as the originator and artistic supervisor, with each being written by various unannounced foreign authors. Each book is anticipated to be available in English and Polish languages.

This isn’t the first time that Frostpunk has taken a step beyond its initial video game release. The franchise announced earlier this year that a board game version was also in the works. This steampunk-in-ice theme goes really well together, especially the dreary and somber post-apocalyptic vibe it carries. It would truly make a fantastic setting for movies and a TV series. Fingers crossed that one of the video streaming giants pick up on this brilliant idea!
