EA Executive Admits STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT Skipped Single Player To Launch With THE FORCE AWAKENS
It never gets old listening to higher up executives eat crow in their board meetings. What does get old is that they rarely learn their lesson and realize things far later than the rest of us. Polygon writes both of the above happened when EA vice president Patrick Soderlund faced investors in their meeting yesterday. When it came to Star Wars: Battlefront sales, Soderlund defended the action to nix single player as they believed it was more important for the game to come out when Star Wars: The Force Awakens did...
"It was a conscious decision we made due to time and being able to launch the game side-by-side with the movie that came out to get the strongest possible impact,"
Yeah...never mind the fact they were at the helm of one of the most anticipated reboots of the past ten years of gaming. What's REALLY important is that it came out during the movie it wasn't tied into. The next statement pisses me off as much as it makes me laugh at some of these industry heads. You're not going to believe this one...
"The depth and breadth is something that's proving to be more and more important in a world where we want $60 upfront and want people to stay with us a for a long time. The depth of what we offer is important."
Whoa. You mean to tell me people want developed games? This is truly a game-changing statement coming from one of the leaders of industry! Seriously, the level of outrage you should feel that one of the gaming giants had to come to this conclusion in failure should shock and appaul you. This essentially means they've been actively releasing rushed games because they believed the content they had was not important! Way to spit in the face of your audience EA, although we're used to it by now.
I'd love to think this leads to real change in the industry, but I'm sure we have the next two years of undeveloped games already being loaded with DLC packages.
