Naturally, the next step for the most modernized retro console to hit the market would be to start adding some newer games that fit the retro style. Bringing a new series of comical mysteries to the Atari VCS platform is Akupara Games as they release Spooky Doorway’s Darkside Detective series! Even Atari is inviting players and would-be detectives to dig into the Atari VCS Store to take on all manner of macabre mysteries in the misfortune-prone community of Twin Lakes.

Both titles, The Darkside Detective and Darkside Detective: A Fumble In The Dark, feature a unique point-and-click puzzle-filled adventure. Player’s will be investigating the city’s many strange, often paranormal, and always paradoxical goings-on. If this is the first time you have heard of this series, you can check out this interview I held with the developer as they were wrapping up the first game’s development.

This series key features include:

  • 15 unique standalone cases between both games

  • Pointing AND clicking technology

  • Music from Thomas O'Boyle, a totally-living composer, definitely not undead, and Ben Prunty, the audiomancer behind gems such as Into the Breach, Subnautica, and FTL

  • Photo-Realistic* Pixel Rendering (*Depends on your definition of photo-realism)

  • At least six jokes
