First Impressions - CUPHEAD is an Incredibly Fun Game - E3 2016
During my time at E3 yesterday I was able to spend a little bit of time playing an incredibly fun little game called Cuphead. The first thing that drew me to it was the retro 1930s animation style and vibe that it had. It has that same kind of look as the old-school black and white Mickey Mouse cartoons and other cartoonists such as Max Fleischer's Fleischer Studios, only this game has vibrant colors that makes the visuals of the game pop.
Cuphead was also ridiculously energetic. It’s a fast-paced game of survival and you play a silly looking character with a cuphead who is being attacked by a horde of adorably evil villains who are out to kill you.
At a first glance, you’d think this game would be an easy to play, but it’s not! This game is freakin’ hard. At times, there’s so much coming at you that it gets overwhelming and it’s hard to see all of the threats. A player can easily just run or jump right into bad guy without even knowing it like I did several times. No matter how hard you try to focus and pay attention there seems to always be something coming that’s hard to avoid or you just don’t see it all because you're trying to avoid something else. You'll see what I mean when you watch the gameplay footage below.
Regardless of the difficulty of the game, I still had a blast playing it and with enough practice, I know it’s something that a player could get good at and master. I’d buy myself a copy because of the fun factor and the fact that I know that it’s something I would enjoy playing with my kids. Here's a description of the game:
Cuphead is a run and gun game. As the titular Cuphead, the player loses a bet with the devil and spends the game attempting to repay the bet. The game features a branching level sequence and is based around continuous boss fights. Cuphead has infinite lives and keeps weapons between deaths. Cuphead has a parry ability and parrying various color coded objects will fill up a special meter that will enable Cuphead to perform a special move. The levels are accessible through an action RPG-style world map with its own secret areas. The game has a two-player cooperative mode that adds another human player to the single-player boss battles playing as Mugman.
The game is set to be released sometime this year in 2016.
