GOD OF WAR PC First Impression: A Smashing Good Port

Back in 2018, God of War hit the PS4 raking in a massive amount of praise, awards, and sales. While the game has continued to receive updates on the PS4, PS4 Pro, and even PS5, it’s now coming to the PC on January 14th. Complete with PC-centric features such as native 4K, DLSS, ultrawide support, and more, this is not some random, lazy port. In fact, we’ve had the opportunity to play the first few hours of the game, and man, it’s turning out to be a smashing good port so far.

Gameplay

God of War was already stellar on console and with the PC build you get a ton of graphics options, control options including mouse/keyboard, PS5, and Xbox controllers that you can switch between seamlessly, on the fly! That’s right, no matter how you want to play this modern classic, the choice is yours with a stellar array of options at your fingertips.

The latest features all worked flawlessly and even without the official NVIDIA drivers, the game still runs like a champ, especially with so many DLSS and FidelityFX Super Resolutions. Menu, controls, and the like are all polished along with the game itself.

Expectations

Since the game is releasing so soon, I can only assume that this is the final or near-final build of the game and so far, so good across the board. Besides a few muddy textures when you zoom all the way in with the awesome photo mode, this version is nearly flawless. Zooming all the way into the textures and seeing a bit of mud, is just nitpicking at this point because overall, this is an extremely attractive package at a fair price.

Verdict

If you can’t tell by now, I am loving God of War on PC and I highly recommend picking it up when it launches this Friday. This title and port bring me hope that Sony will continue to support both console and PC gaming in the coming years and if the ports are this good, I say bring it on! Putting amazing titles in the hands of more gamers is only a positive in my eyes and whether you missed this on console or want to play it again in its full glory, you should check it out.

God of War will be available for $49.99 on both Steam and EGS Friday, January 14th. It’s available for pre-order now.
