Here Are 5 Horror Themed Board Games You Can Pick Up For Next Month
Horrified
Probably the easiest pick to put on this list. Ravensburger has multiple versions of this game including the Universal Monsters Horrified, American Monsters Horrified, and coming October first Greek Monsters Horrified. Horrified is a team based horror board game where you and your friends will work together to take down monsters and save villagers. I have both versions that are already out and I plan on grabbing a copy of Greek Monsters in preparation for Halloween.
From this list I recommend this game for people that are less into competitive gaming and like a more team driven experience.
You can purchase any of the Horrified games at most retailers that sell board games or on the Ravensburger website. Starting at $29.99 USD with Greek Monsters being $39.99.
Scream
A Funko game, I’m going to stick to the team games for this one, sort of. Similar to Horrified, you and your team will work together in Scream the Game to stop the infamous serial killer, Ghostface. But unlike the last one, you are also trying to make sure that YOU stay alive first and foremost. This game is unique because you have to download an app for the game that will act as if you were getting a phone call from Ghostface, just like in the movies. Make sure to listen to his instructions clearly, it might be the difference between life and death.
Out of the five games on this list, this is the game I recommend for party board gamers, as it’s the easiest to explain and you can play with up to eight players.
Sream the Game is available at most retailers that sell board games or on the official Funko website. This game is running a bit cheaper at $19.99 USD so this game would be perfect for your Halloween party needs.
Mixtape Massacre
Sticking to the theme of slashers, Mixtape Massacre gets a little more competitive. In Mixtape Massacre you and your friends will be pitted against each other in a 1980s throwback of horror villains and mixtapes. You will either engage in a battle royale of murderous murderers and be the last one standing, or scavenge the map to be the first one to collect the set number of trophies.
I bought this one a long time ago before the release of the Directors Cut, I just might have to buy it again for the extra four archetypes!
Mixtape Massacre is available exclusively on their website, while you’re their make sure to check out their expansions for the game and their other horror themed games. This game will run you $49.99 USD but I promise it’s worth it for the artwork alone.
Nyctophobia
This next one is a weird one, by Pandasaurus Games this is Nyctophobia. Meaning “fear of the dark” players will work together in this pitch black forrest to escape a blood thirsty murderer! This game is super interesting because players will be blindfolded and will rely strictly on touch to really lean into the sense of danger when running away in a pitch black forrest.
This game I would recommend most to experienced board gamers and those trying to grow their board game collection, this game is perfect if you have a group of four to play.
Nyctophobia might be a little harder to find, but there are plenty of listings on ebay. But it’s also available on Amazon for a marked up price.
The Night Cage
Last but not least, The Night Cage. A spooky strategy game by Smirk and Dagger. In The Night Cage, similarly to Nyctophobia you won’t be able to see, not in a literal sense but you will uncover the map as you go. A fully co-op game, you will all work together and each collect a key to escape this horrific labyrinth. With nothing but a candle lighting your way you will uncover one tile at a time hoping that you find your way and not a pit of despair. The only way to go is forward, for your way back has been changed forever.
This game is both challenging and exciting, so out of the five on this list, this is probably the one I recommend the most for Board Game lovers.
The Night Cage is available at Barnes & Noble for $39.99 USD.
