Horror Review Round Up - HOLLOWBODY, MOUTHWASHING, KILLING TIME: RESURRECTED
NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: We here at GameTyrant have been absolutely bombarded with so many games this year. We will be rolling out select quick reviews to let our audience know about games and DLC that may have slipped under their radar. We appreciate the amazing support from all publishers and developers out there!
Hollowbody
Starting our review round-up is a return to classic survival horror. Hollowbody does an amazing job of transporting us to the early PS1 days of survival horror gameplay in a title reminiscent of Silent Hill. However, Hollowbody does an amazing job of setting itself apart from others in its genre with its harrowing world of terrifying enemies and its setting of a cyberpunk future. This is a title that I honestly think gamers who enjoy survival horror titles should pick up, Its story is dark, and the scares come a plenty. I also just really enjoyed the game’s lighting and sound design. Between the two, you get sucked into its grimy and psychologically exhausting setting.
Mouthwashing
Mouthwashing is a pretty unique title. It’s a mostly walking simulator haunted house that unravels around you as you continue through its purposely distorted story. Between jumps in the story’s chronology and the mind madness of its main character, you never really know what’s going on until the credits finally roll. It’s a very neat game that oftentimes made me feel uncomfortable with both its subtle and overt bone-chilling moments. It’s not a very long game at all, but one worth checking out. Its story is pure human horror.
Killing Time: Resurrected
While I’d like to say I loved Killing Time: Resurrected, it wasn’t exactly the experience that I had hoped for. While the game itself is a gem in its story, setting, and campy horror elements, it runs like crap on the Nintendo Switch. I could barely get through the game’s first couple of areas without frequent frame drops and even full-on game freezes. I truly enjoyed the gameplay in this title when the game worked, and it’s just a real shame that, at least for now, Killing Time isn’t enjoyable on that platform.
