MAID OF SKER Terrifies With Welsh Lullaby And First-Person Horror
Scoring a trailer for a first-person survival horror game with a haunting Welsh lullaby is a surefire way to psychologically unhinge any gamer who dares watch the footage.
And that’s exactly what Wales Interactive is aiming to do with its latest trailer for Maid of Sker. Set in a remote hotel, the ghoulish narrative draws on British folklore to create an immersive experience full of gore and tension.
Created by a team of writers and designers behind games like SOMA, Don’t Knock Twice, and Battlefield 1, this story is inspired by the Welsh tale of Elisabeth Williams, involving torture, slavery, piracy, and more twisted deeds that spiral into supernatural madness.
Players will be able to discover multiple story endings, a sound-based AI system, and no-weapon survival tactics. If you thought it was scary already, just think about not being able to use a weapon while macabre monstrous things attack and pursue you. I am not looking forward to it—I mean, I am, but you know what I mean.
And Tia Kalmaru brings famous Welsh hymns to life with blood-curdling results.
The horror game is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam in June 2020. It will arrive on the Nintendo Switch sometime in Q3 2020.
