Matt Reeves Unveils The First Teaser Trailer For THE BATMAN!
The heavily anticipated film The Batman received its first official teaser trailer! The video was brought to us courtesy of Matt Reeves during his panel with Aisha Tyler at DC’s Fandome. The trailer is chock-full of great scenes and characters. We finally get to see a glimpse of Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of the masked vigilante, Batman.
It was revealed that The Riddler (played by Paul Dano) is the main antagonist of the film. Colin Farrell also makes an appearance in the trailer as The Penguin. He’s absolutely unrecognizable in the role. I hadn’t realized it was him until I saw a meme online.
When talking about the movie, Reeves stressed that he wanted his version of the Batman universe to be a different take on everything we’ve seen up to this point in the various films. He’s returning to the character’s detective roots and creating a crime noir type of film. He compared it to other films such as Chinatown and Taxi Driver. It’s almost a character study on Bruce Wayne and his chosen path as the Batman.
The trailer shows off quite a bit but Reeves says that they had only filmed about 25% of the film before production had been shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Within it, we also get to see Batman’s suit which is very reminiscent of the Arkham game series. Very tactical looking. That’s the look Reeves was going for and it shows up in the final product. I’ve also never seen Batman beat the stuffing out of someone the way he does in the trailer.
The film is set to release sometime in 2021, in theaters only. Hopefully, all is back to normal when the film releases. This will definitely be a theater-going experience. It’s clear that Reeves is a DC fanatic so I’m sure the final cut of the film will be a sight to behold.
