Microsoft Launches PHANTOM DUST free on Xbox One and Windows 10 today

Aaron Greenberg, the Head of Xbox Marketing, has revealed on Twitter  that the re-release of Phantom Dust on Xbox One and Microsoft 10 will be launched for free today. It is a pseudo card-based game that focuses on action and strategy. Many of you may recall that a remastered release of the game had been indicated at the 2014 E3 Conference, but it was cancelled thereafter. During last year's E3, it was once again revealed that Phantom Dust would be released, slated for 2017.

It seems as though they got it right this time. Many fans of the original classic were very upset when the release was cancelled, but it appears that that is all forgiven now with the news that it will be launched free today. Clearly launching with a free title on day one is a great way to get into the broken hearts of so many fans.

If you're wondering what new features will be included in this remaster, the creative director of Microsoft Studios, Adam Isgreen, already gave us a teaser in his interview with Polygon earlier this month:

“The biggest thing is moving [Phantom Dust] to 16:9 and moving to native resolution. So what that basically means is that if you’re playing on Xbox One, you’re running at 1080p so the game is going to render at 1080p; if you’re on a PC and you’re playing at 4K resolution, the game will render its assets at 4K. So basically, if you put it in a window, the resolution will be the window size. So we’ve been able to actually take full advantage of whatever you’re playing on and render Phantom Dust correctly at that resolution.”

Windows 10 is not the only requirements for PC though, so make sure you are jacked up with these specs:

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33GHz | AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 | AMD Radeon HD 7750
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection

Let us know if you pick up this freebie, and what your experience of the remastered edition is.
