New OVERWATCH Map Preview

With competitive play season one of Overwatch ending on August 17 and the advent of season two on September 6 we also got a preview of the Eichenwalde map which is listed only as, coming soon.
This new map was revealed at Gamescom 2016 and geographically will take place on the outskirts of Stuttgart, Germany. It will feature an assault/escort hybrid mode and will debut a new game mechanic where the payload you have to escort is a battering ram that will be used to pound your way through Eichenwalde Castle to reclaim the remains of Balderich von Adler while the other team defends it. So, it sounds like a little more of the same, but different.

Revealed at gamescom 2016, Eichenwalde is an Assault/Escort hybrid map set in an abandoned village on the outskirts of Stuttgart, Germany. The site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis, it was here that the leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Alder, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army.

Here's the official description of the in-game history of the site, which sounds pretty cool.

The site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis, it was here that the leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Alder, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were ultimately slain during the resulting combat. However, thanks to their valiant efforts, the German military was able to push back the omnic offensive and win the fight.
