Nintendo Reveals Their New, OLED Switch

In a Twitter post this morning, Nintendo officially pulled the curtain back on their long-rumored, new Nintendo Switch model. Dubbed the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) this new hardware is not quite the Switch Pro everyone was expecting. While it doesn’t appear to have many of the internal upgrades enthusiasts were hoping for, it does sport a 7-inch OLED screen, improved audio from the onboard speakers, and a much wider base with an adjustable hinge.

The OLED model will also come with 64GB of internal storage and a new version of the Nintendo Switch dock with some upgrades of its own. The most notable of these is the addition of a wired LAN port for online gaming, something Smash Bros. and Mario Kart fans will be happy about. Nintendo is already marketing this new hardware as a third, premium member of the Switch console family, alongside the original Switch and the Switch Lite.

While no pre-order information was released it can be safely assumed most major retailers will carry it. It will have two available packages at launch: one with the standard, neon-colored Joy-Con and a black dock, and another with new, white Joy-Con and a matching dock. The Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) will launch on October 8, 2021, for $349.99USD.
