PS1-Style Horror THE FRIDGE IS RED Out Next Week

Developer 5WORD Team invites the player back into the low-poly world of PS1 horror, with a new title that looks hauntingly familiar. It harks back to a time when even games that weren’t supposed to be spooky had an odd, liminal quality to them.

Published by tinyBuild, the new title The Fridge Is Red takes inspiration from an earlier era to bring the low fidelity fright to the PC. It puts the player into the shoes of Frank, a cash-strapped worker who makes ends meet with a side gig repairing broken appliances. His life takes a turn for the worst when he receives a seemingly unfixable red fridge, and a mystery along with it. There is something deeply wrong with this fridge, and with every blink, it seems to move slightly closer.

The Fridge Is Red follows six different horror stories, with different settings but a mysterious possible connection. Settings include gloomy basements, sprawling hospitals and archives, bleak snowscapes, and creepy churches.

To get seriously immersed in the analogue horror experience, the game even comes with options that lock the FPS and give VHS-style post-processing effects, though these can be turned on or off to the player’s liking.

The Fridge is Red is available on PC via Steam from the 27th of September.
