RETURNAL PC Review: Why This Sci-Fi Masterpiece Rocks On PC

PC Code Provided by Sony

The PS5 started out with a smaller yet absolutely fantastic library and with what I consider one of the original members of a trio of stellar games available during the first part of that console’s life, Returnal, was an absolute triumph on the PS5 and was included in our list for 2021’s Best Games. Returnal is back and better than ever for PC. If you had a chance to play the game on PS5, you’ll be pleased to know that the PC version offers all the goodness found in the original, patched, and updated PS5 version but adds many features that make a fantastic game even better.

As soon in the screenshots attached (straight from the game, no filters or post-processing), the already gorgeous game absolutely dreamy unlocked framerates, DLSS and AMD scaling options, ultrawide support, and is loaded with accessibility options, choices between controllers or mouse and keyboard, and on and on. This truly is a perfect example of a stellar PC port of this next gen title that could have been rushed for a quick cash grab. Instead, both PC and PS5 versions are fantastic options depending on your available hardware and preference.

Not only can you choose your controller, is you plug in a PS5 controller to your PS5, you can enjoy all the haptics, feedback, and other game changing features of the DualSense controller. All these little extras and options push this PC port from great to excellent.

I couldn’t be more thrilled that Sony continues to release some of its best games on PC and not only are they coming fast and furious, but they are also handled with love, care, and attention to detail for PC-centric features and tweaks. Whatever you do, pick up Returnal ASAP. It’s a masterclass example of visuals, audio, storytelling, and design done right for not only a challenging but absolutely rewarding experience. While some may breeze through all the baddies thrown at you, some may find the game extremely difficult to progress. Either way, I love a hardcore challenge and I can’t wait to see what these devs do next.

Returnal is available now on Steam, Epic Games Store, and PS5.
