Sony Responds To The FORTNITE Controversy

It seems that Sony does not want to admit the ongoing Fortnite problem. The company remained silent over the growing frustrations among players after finding out that their Fortnite accounts linked to the PS4 are blocked from the newly released Switch version of the game.

On the flip side, Fortnite accounts that have been used to log in on the Switch version are also blocked on the PlayStation 4. The sad thing is that Sony never told players that once their accounts have been used on the PS4, they can no longer use it to play on other consoles. As a consequence, Sony’s social media accounts were blasted with complaints from angry players worldwide.

In a statement to the BBC, Sony finally gave a response to address the situation.

“We’re always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested to enhance their gaming experience. With more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we’ve built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles.”

Unfortunately, Sony’s statement did not acknowledge nor offered a solution to the problem of account lockouts players have been experiencing for the past few days. Fortnite developer Epic Games did not give any comments on the situation. However, Nintendo spoke to Polygon during an E3 interview and said that they have no control over how other companies handle Fortnite accounts.

“In fairness, there are three different things going on,” said Reggie Fils-Aime from Nintendo of America. “You have companies like mine that encourage cross-play and enable cross-play. You have a developer and content owner that wants cross-play and enable cross-play, and then you have the other platform holders and what it is that they do. And when it comes to other platforms, as much as you have influence on other platform holders, I don’t. And that’s a decision that each of them are making, and some are supporting cross-play and some are not.”
