Spider-Man Makes The Cut For MARVEL’S AVENGERS
Spider-Man is officially joining in on the action for Marvel’s Avengers! The news broke today over on the Playstation Blog website by Crystal Dynamics’ associate art designer, Jeff Adams. This comes only days after we finally received confirmation that Hawkeye would be joining the ensemble, after speculation of whether he would be included in their story or not.
When conceptualizing his suit for the game, they went back to the beginning and chose to take inspiration from comic book artists Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr. The most prominent feature on both artists’ suit design is the webbing under Spidey’s arms. We haven’t seen this look utilized much as of late, so it’ll be refreshing to see if that made the cut in their final design.
Because he can swing around, the developers made it clear that they want him to feel like an acrobat when you play as him. He’ll have different gadgets and web enhancements to allow different methods of traversing the battlefields, to allow for a seamless transition between web-slinging and combat. He’ll also have his own skill trees, unique suits, and gadgets that will make it your choice of how you’d like to play as Spider-Man.
The web-slinger won’t be part of the roster until early 2021 and will be playable exclusively on Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 at no additional cost. Unfortunately, this means that if you aren’t gaming on a Playstation, you’re out of luck. It doesn’t come as a huge shock, as the rights to the character are owned by Sony and they don’t just let his likeness be thrown around by anyone.
During his debut, there’ll be an in-game event to introduce him to the wide selection of Marvel characters in the game. Adams assures that this event will include some challenges to test the hero’s abilities so that we can truly see what he is capable of. This sounds like a really cool way of allowing us to become familiar with him and should help us get a better understanding of how he handles.
As someone who pre-ordered on Playstation, I’m very excited! But for those of you who aren’t getting it on Playstation, how do you feel? Let us know in the comments below.
