SPLATOON 3 Expansion Pass Announced

Splatoon 3 was one of the biggest titles for the Nintendo Switch in 2022, and it’s about to get even bigger. At today’s Nintendo Direct, the Japanese publisher revealed that Splatoon 3 is getting a paid Expansion Pass that will feature two waves of extra content. They went on to detail the first wave of the expansion: the return of Inkopolis, the main hub from the original Splatoon.

This central hub features a variety of shops and characters, including some familiar faces from older titles in the series. It’s a fully functional base that sports the same wares as Splatoon 3’s Splatsville, so players can choose which locale in which they prefer to spend their time. The Squid Sisters also return and will perform a concert for all residents during Splatfests. Inkopolis will join Splatoon 3 in Spring 2023.

The second wave of the Expansion Pass appears to be a new piece of atmospheric story content titled Side Order. The teaser for this wave features a forlorn-looking Octoling girl in a strange, colorless version of Splatsville. The footage is intercut with strange, hand-drawn images and eerie, pulsating lifeforms. Wave 2 of the Expansion Pass will launch sometime in the future.

Splatoon 3 has maintained a steady cadence of new content since its launch last September, with regular Splatfests and even a crossover with Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. In fact, there’s a new Splatfest starting up later this week featuring different types of chocolate, so hop in to prepare for your return to Inkopolis later this year.

Splatoon 3 is available now for the Nintendo Switch, and the Expansion Pass is available on the Nintendo eShop.
