SUPERMOVES Quick Review: Parkour Done Fun

Gameplay

When it comes to Supermoves, there’s one thing that you can expect; some extremely enjoyable parkour. While playing, I was fondly reminded of how much fun I had as a young teenager playing the original Mirror’s Edge game. Supermoves captures that chaotic and fun gameplay that ME perfectly did all of those years ago. Whether you’re running the sides of a skyscraper or jumping around in a giant jungle gym, Supermoves manages to give players a gameplay experience with low stakes and high enjoyability.

While Supermoves definitely takes inspiration from other games with parkour that we’ve seen in the past, there’s more inspo worth noting. This title has taken the likes of the Tony Hawk: Pro Skater games and has put a parkour spin on it. Featuring zany and exciting different courses, races, and challenges, this title feels both very familiar and extremely freshly new at the same times. It’s very cool to see.

Gameplay itself is fluant, and easy to master. You’ll have the typical wall-running we’ve seen in other titles, as well as sliding, but the added advantage of double-jumping via back or front-flips, as well as the ability to “grind” across wires or bars makes for a traversal ability to give manuverability more nuance. Technically, this way of moving is called “Soaping”, but it’s a welcomed addition in my eyes for this parkou'-centric title.

On top of th fun I’ve already mentioned, the game allows players to mess around in their own create-a-course type of environment where they get to be the gamemakers. Personally, I don’t enjoy these types of things in games myself, but I’m glad it exists because it’s a cool added touch of variety.

Verdict

I love Supermoves! Between its enjoyable gameplay loop, the environments, and the price-point of $15 for the fun, it is well worth it. If you want a nice mishmash of variable game titles wrapped up in one, mesmerizing title, then Supermoves is for you.
