The File Size of WOLFENSTEIN II for the Switch is Bigger than Expected

A pre-order listing via the official Nintendo UK store revealed that the file size of the upcoming Switch port of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is larger than what was initially announced.

Initially, the eShop listed that Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus would need at least 13.7 GB of free space on the Switch. According to the listing, Wolfenstein will now require 23 GB of free space. Furthermore, the store states that a microSD card (sold separately) may be necessary to download the software.

Although the file size is a bit too much for a Switch title, it is worth noting that the original PlayStation 4 version of the game goes for around 48 GB, which means that the game is compressed and fine-tuned to be squeezed into a Switch-friendly size. Still, at 23 GB, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is significantly larger than some of Nintendo’s first-party titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that goes for 13.4 GB, or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which sports 6.75 GB.

Given that the Switch only has a 32GB internal memory, with some of it already occupied by the OS and other apps, it is recommended that players purchase some external memory to download Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus on the Switch.
