THE INVINCIBLE Review: An Experience Not To Be Missed
Gameplay and Story
With so many games, movies, TV, and other media being released every week, it’s near impossible to keep up. In the gaming industry alone, titles are being released in record numbers every week. Sometimes, absolutely stunning games get released and slip quietly under the radar. One such title that I recently encountered is THE INVINCIBLE. It’s a stunning adventure that no one should miss, even if this type of game isn’t your cup of tea. I dare you not to be totally sucked into the world, it’s characters, and the deep meaning behind every speck of dust, every ripple of water, and every bit of the incredibly well-written dialogue.
Based on a novel I’d never read before, The Invincible starts out in a comic book style and with a serious case of amnesia, our main character wakes up on an alien planet. Part of the absolutely joy, wonder, awe, and discovery of The Invincible comes through it’s incredible story with characters you WILL care about and empathize with. I won’t give anything away but let’s just say that even though gameplay elements are light and simple, they work. Combined with masterful storytelling, The Invincible is one of the best and biggest surprises this year for me personally. The less you know going into the game, the better..
Audio and Visuals
If you can’t tell by the incredible screenshots in this review, this game is absolutely gorgeous. Artistically and technically it’s an absolute triumph. Not only does it look amazing, I was easily able to max it out, run it at 4K @ 96 FPS and there was still plenty of room to breathe on both my CPU and GPU. This is a stunning achievement in a year of so many botched releases that run like garbage. This is a work of art in every sense.
Equally as impressive as the visuals is the audio. The stunning Mass Effect-esque score, the sound effects and most of all, the near-perfect voice acting makes this an audiovisual feast. Crank up the graphics, blast the sound and you’ll be transported to another world in more ways than one.
Feedback
While some may just label this game a simple “walking sim” due to the limited gameplay elements, never once did I feel bored or uninvolved in the gripping story ripe with heavy decisions that made me want to go back and see what would happen if I hadn’t made certain, life-altering decisions. That being said, some of the areas may be a little slow for some gamers that want fast-paced action or guns a blazing.
Conclusion
As I mentioned, The Invincible is one of the best games I’ve play as of late and as you all know, we’ve played a ton of games this year. It’s beautiful audiovisually, the writing and storytelling are top notch, and it’s an experience that every gamer should have. The wizards at Starward Industries should be proud of the masterpieces they have created. The cherry on top? You can find this game for around $30 or less. An absolutely no brainer. Go buy it!
