The Last Wii Game Has Been Released, Long Live The Wii!

Hard to believe that it has been nearly 7 years since the Wii was replaced by the Wii U. In that time we have sen the Wii U fail to deliver on sales expectations and itself get replaced by the Nintendo Switch 2 and a half years ago. We have also seen the closure of all the Nintendo Wii’s online components including multiplayer and Eshop. Yet the 100 million+ selling system isn’t dead yet as Ubisoft has released Just Dance 2020 for the now 13-year-old system. Now Just Dance is one of those games that took the Wii concept and merged with it perfectly. Considering the casual fanbase the Wii was able to accrue, it also isn’t surprising that many Just Dance fans would still be on the system to justify this most recent release.

Another popular system that saw a release 13 years on from its original release was the PS2, the best selling console of all time. In February 2014 it got a release of PES 2014 despite the PS4's lifecycle just beginning. Systems that don't sell as well tend to see games drop off more quickly as was the case with The Nintendo GameCube. The last game released, for one of my favorite Nintendo Systems, was Madden 08 in August of 2007 less than a year after the launch of the Wii. But just because a systems final game has come it doesn't mean the system might not see more in the future. To this day new indie titles and homebrew games come out for systems of yesteryear. Who knows, in the next 5 years maybe we will see a new influx of Wii titles!

We would love to hear from you all about some of your favorite Wii memories and games!
