This Week in 4K Gaming: DOOM, Blitzball, and Revolution!
DOOM
Available Now
When I first saw that DOOM was being rebooted, re-imagined, etc etc, I was more than hesitant. Let's face it, it was the first real shooter experience I had along with WOLFENSTEIN 3D back in the early days of PC gaming and held a special place in my heart. I am happy to report that not only does the single player campaign live up to the fast paced, in your face legacy, it's absolutely gorgeous in 4K. It's blazing fast, runs great, and is truly a sight to behold. Props to iD and Bethesda!
FINAL FANTASTY X/X-2 HD Remaster
Available Now
Tidus! Love or hate, he's back in a stellar collection of remastered goodness in 4K! Once again, I am a total sucker for nostalgia and I remember being absolutely blown away by FFX when it launched on the PS2. I remember gawking at this creation on my then brand new Sony 54" 1080i rear projection HDTV. Even though some of the magic has worn off, this is a solid collection of FFX/X-2 and all the goodies complete with tweaks, cheats, and of course, 4K resolutions. Even though it's locked at 30 FPS, it's a must for those mega fans who've always wanted to play at high res. BAM!
Homefront: The Revolution
Available Now
Love 'em or hate 'em, first person shooters are alive and well, with both DOOM and now Homefront: The Revolution you have plenty of options to dive into some ultra-violence. While DOOM is of course an alien filled, over the top gore fest in the old school sense, Homefront is a more modern, gritty undertaking that is absolutely brutal in a much more shocking way. The intro sequence is brutally rendered in 4K on our gaming rig which made it all the more difficult to watch. This title is not for the faint of heart or squeamish.. but if that's your gig, dive right in!
