Weekly PC Gaming Review Recap: The Dynamic Duo of NIOH 2 and VALHEIM EARLY ACCESS
NIOH 2: COMPLETE EDITION
Available Now
Soulsborne type games can definitely be a love/hate type of scenario. While years ago I balked at extremely difficult games, Bloodborne was the title that got me fully invested into the idea that extreme challenges usually bring extreme rewards. It’s true that after reaching a level or a boss that truly seem impossible on the first try, after they fall, it’s a rush.
NIOH 2 for PC while not a revolution from the first title, it is definitely an evolution of the formula and it’s jam packed full of hundreds of hours of pure Team Ninja magic from the silly, spooky, seriously to the outright insanity of the half snake/half women type enemies.
Trust me. The moment you hit the dark forest or caves creeping with these sirens and you’ll be wishing they didn’t exist. While a controller is definitely needed for the PC version, the higher resolution and high frame rates just crush the console version of the game. If you’re in for a challenge and want some unique, NIOH 2 is absolutely fantastic on PC. Be sure to check our Tweak Guide as well to get the most out of the game.
VALHEIM
Early Access
With over 4 million copies sold in just a matter of weeks, the simple yet stunning Valheim is not slowing down. While on the surface, you think you’ve played this game before, it’s never been this engaging and addicting. Yes, you harvest, mine, craft and explore but the way it all comes together is truly a wonder. The wind rustles through the pixelated trees, the sun rises and sets gorgeous as soft light bounces between bright meadows and dark forest. It’s the atmosphere and setting that truly sets Valheim apart from so many cheap and hallow clones.
Truly, after taking down the first boss in the game, the peaceful and subtle setting turned into a battle royale of awesome scale. That is what Valheim succeeds in most is just a massive array of emotions, highs and lows with beauty and fear all in a pixelated package.. and this is just Early Access! I can’t wait to see what this team does with the game on the wings of massive success. For now, it’s worth every penny of your hard earned gaming dollar. Valheim is a stunning triumph and what every Early Access title wishes they could be.
