The N64 will forever be one of my favorite gaming systems. It came at a time when I began to buy my own games and the multiplayer memories I have with it will always be some of my favorites! Even though it has been 23 years since the systems North American launch, that doesn’t stop new fans from discovering many of the systems killer games.

The problem with the N64 today is that it ran off of the older composite video and in today’s modern HDMI equipped world it might be difficult to connect it to a display. Options exist like the Retro Tink 2X which will take that composite signal and line double it up to 480P and be output over HDMI. For anyone taking their N64 on the go, having to carry around the system a few games and the Retro Tink gets a bit messy, this is where the 64Mate comes into play.

The 64Mate is a storage solution for N64 enthusiasts that can store upscalers, capture cards, or up to 8 games for easy transport and a clean appearance. The 64Mate attaches to the bottom of an N64 console or 64DD and has an OEM appearance. The front of the 64 Mate can be customized with new faceplate inserts to further give the device an appearance of your liking.

The 64Mate project is headed up by shanebattye and Ghillie_Guide who are hoping to launch a Kickstarter for the device soon. To celebrate getting closer to the occasion the final prototypes for the 64Mate have been shown off in a new unboxing video! The 64Mate is expected to cost around $49 when the Kickstarter launches. If you are interested in learning more about the project or just want to stay up to date on its progress you can follow both shanebattye and Ghillie_Guide over on Twitter and sign-up for the mailing list.

I love seeing the N64 scene get all of this love and support!
