Starwars Jedi: Fallen Order follows Cal Kestis a Jedi padawan who was able to escape Order 66 in Episode III. When an Empire droid surveils Cal using the force to save a friend, the Second Sister, trained by Darth Vader himself, is dispatched to hunt down Cal and any remaining Jedi.
The graphics felt good, and the transitions from cinematics to gameplay felt smooth. Although this game initially had slow traction, it appears that the combat mechanics have more depth than seen on the surface.
The game sports medroidvania design, skill trees, and good old saber battles. My first impression is that the combat should feel less hack-and-slashy than previous Jedi Knight games. Mastery of skills over time will open new combat skills and combos.
I was disappointed that the story follows yet another human Jedi. This was an opportunity for the franchise to branch out to other species or even a different human ethnicity- if only for variety’s sake.
Additionally, the gameplay video shows only a third person view which I suppose is helpful in capturing the broader atmosphere.
I also have qualms with Cal’s ATAT scaling scene- how many times have vehicles been hijacked from the Empire in the past? And they have lasers but not the ability or funding to clean their vehicles so as to avoid said hijackings? Even if the vines were for a camouflage of sorts, how can one not hear an ATAT approaching?
Over all I’m hopeful about the game. Take a look at the footage and let us know what you think.
