DISNEY VILLAINOUS FILLED WITH FRIGHT Review: The Luck Of The Dice

What’s In The Box?

The Disney Villainous Filled With Fright box is an expansion featuring a single character for the Disney Villainous board games. Previously, only one other single character box had been released—the Marvel Villainous Venom box. Filled With Fright introduces the beloved character Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The box also comes with a really well crafted set of Oogie’s very recognizable dice.

Gameplay

Oogie Boogie's objective is to defeat Jack Skellington, which he accomplishes by successfully using the Imposter Santa card four times to eliminate the real Santa and then vanquishing Jack. Many cards in Oogie Boogie's deck rely on luck. For example, playing cards like Imposter Santa prompts you to roll dice, and the outcome of the roll determines the card's effect.

This luck-based gameplay adds a fun and unique element to the box, striking a balance between enjoyable unpredictability and strategic play, rather than being purely random.

Feedback

Although the luck-based gameplay is entertaining and distinct, I can foresee this type of objective becoming repetitive over time. While it may work well for Oogie Boogie, introducing more luck-based characters could lead to an overwhelming and monotonous experience. In essence, it would be wise to restrict the number of luck-based characters they introduce.

Verdict

Disney Villainous Filled With Fright is a fantastic character addition. It would have been even better if it came in a box with more characters, as it's an easy-to-learn character that could attract new players. However, being in a single-character box means you must already have other characters to play with it. Still, for those who can make the additional purchase, Oogie Boogie is definitely worth it.
