The gaming community has been talking about EA’s upcoming Star Wars Battlefront II for quite sometime now. Check out everything you need to know so far on the upcoming game here. However, recent conversation has not been positive, in fact it is extremely negative that Reddit users down voted a post from the EACommunityTeam making it the most down voted comment of all time. Yes, OF ALL TIME.
If you’re not familiar with recent events that transpired, over the weekend, people received information on how the loot box system will work in Battlefront II. Certain popular characters will not be immediately available to users who purchase the game. Instead, these characters will be unlocked much later unless the player would spend more money on the already expensive game.
This infuriated fans who are planning or have already pre-ordered the game and took their grievance to Reddit that warranted the now infamous response from EA defending the game which read:
As of the writing of this article, the comment already garnered 587,000 down votes from Reddit users within a 24 hour timespan, making it the most down voted post. This is a huge gap from the 2nd most down voted post that only has 24,000. One user commented on how it will be unfair that others will have to grind for hours to unlock certain characters while others can simply purchase them.
While another commented on how the response confirmed their decision to refund the game.
The extreme backlash from Reddit certainly got through EA’s doors that it warranted a response from the Executive Producer at Dice, John Wasilczyk. The full statement can be found here but in a nutshell Wasilczyk said that:
"There’s been a lot of discussion around the amount of in-game credits (and time) it takes to unlock some of our heroes, especially Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Unlocking a hero is a great accomplishment in the game, something we want players to have fun earning” said Wasilczyk. "So, we’re reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock the top heroes by 75%. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will now be available for 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa for 10,000 credits; and Iden at 5,000 credits.”
Besides reducing the amount of credits by 75%, Wasilczyk further stated that the company is always open for conversation and that they welcome any feedback from fans of the game. Personally, I think if EA wants the unlocking of certain heroes to become an accomplishment, then they should just get rid of the option to purchase credits so that players can earn them by actually spending time playing the game. But then again, that would be taking away another revenue stream for the company.
