When it comes to Xbox Core controllers, the thing that always bothers me is the fact that they still run on AA batteries. Well, Fosmon’s Dual Max 2 Controller Charging Station has you covered with some immensely strong batteries that make playing and charging a breeze.

What’s In The Box

Inside the box, you’ll find the charging station itself, a micro-USB cable to connect to your console, 2x battery packs, as well as 2x battery covers for Core controllers, and 2x battery covers for Xbox One controllers. It’s great that Fosmon thought of some backward compatibility here, especially since I myself have both types of controllers charging on this dock now.

Build Quality

As far as the actual feel of the base itself goes, there is room for it to be a bit sturdier. Though this will most likely be sitting out of the way of hazards depending on your setup, it is worth noting that it isn’t Fort Knox. On the other side of the coin, the battery packs and covers feel pretty good. I had no issues getting either of these pieces connected to both of my controllers in more than seconds.

Specs

The charging station offers a few features that make it both user-friendly and safe for your controllers. The station has two different LED light indicators; one for each charging spot. I appreciate the ease of knowing when the battery is charging and when it’s ready to go.

I also appreciate the fact that the station has a smart charging feature that allows it to shut off when it recognizes that the batteries have been fully charged. I know too well of cheap charging docks and the havoc they can wreak on your controllers. It’s great to see this kind of feature baked right in to put the mind at ease.

Gameplay

Where the Dual Max 2 impresses though is in the life of its batteries. Each battery pack is 2200 mAH and offers gamers up to 45-hours a piece off of a full charge. I tested this out with my controller by not setting it on the charger for a week. To my surprise, after a week of gameplay, it barely showed a difference when I checked its power via my Xbox.

When it comes to how the battery covers feel when attached to the controller, they’re pretty great. They run flush to the controller itself so that they don’t intrude on where your fingers are placed. This also helps the fact of just how easily the controllers slide onto the base to charge. There’s no pressing of things or clicking in.

What It Could Have Done Better

My only complaint is that the base itself could feel a bit better, especially if you’re someone who spends the $59 MSRP on it.

Verdict

Fosmon is offering players a pretty great charging station. The best parts overshine the qualm I have with it overall. This is definitely one of the best and most user-friendly bases I’ve ever used. The battery power alone is worth picking this up.
